His life is filled with wealth and privilege. On the other hand, Billy Ray Valentine (played by Eddie Murphy) is a destitute homeless man struggling to survive on the streets. One day, their paths unexpectedly cross when Billy gets caught in the middle of a police chase and ends up in the same upscale club where Louis is present. Louis decides to hand Billy over to the police, not realizing that his decision will set off a chain of events that will forever alter their lives. The Duke brothers, who witness the incident, see an opportunity for mischief and decide to switch the identities and positions of Louis and Billy through a bet. Thus, a whimsical and unpredictable exchange of fates begins.
